Gene Belle, 94, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, formerly of Lincoln, MA, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Atlanti-Care Regional Medical Center in Galloway Township, New Jersey. He was the beloved husband of Edna (Raphael) Belle and the late Irene (Rotti) Belle.
Born in Italy on March 23, 1916 he was the son of the late Luigi and Angelina (Tricca) Paliotti. He attended Boston public schools and graduated from Franklin Institute in Boston.
During World War II, Mr. Belle began his career as a tool and die maker at General Electric River Works in Lynn and progressed to Engineering Management. In 1958 while working as a Manufacturing Engineer for General Electric Jet Engine Division, he was co-inventor of a new (Roll and Coin) process for manufacturing fan blades used in the G. E. T-58 and T-64 jet engines for military aircraft. This process resulted in significantly reduced manufacturing costs and stricter dimension tolerances than methods previously used. He retired from General Electric Company in 1977.
He was a longtime Lincoln resident before moving to Mays Landing, New Jersey. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and wood carving.
In addition to his wife, Edna, he is survived by his son, Eugene Belle of Chelmsford, his son-in-law, Robert Hanlon of Chelmsford, his sister, Rose Belotta of Everett. He was the father of the late Eileen Hanlon and brother of the late Josephine DeLouis of Stoneham and the late Nicholas Belle of Medford.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 27th in St. Josephs Church, 142 Lincoln Road, Lincoln from 10 to 11 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 11 AM.
