Fred Stephen Silverstone, of Waltham, passed away on October 3rd, 2021 at 70 years of age. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Bella and Felix Silverstone. Beloved husband of Michele Collins. Father of Leah Silverstone, David Silverstone, Palmer Silverstone Mackay and Bronson Silverstone Mackay. Grandfather of Joshua Silverstone and Jonah Silverstone. Brother of Paul Silverstone. His loss is deeply felt by the many people touched by his kindness.
Fred graduated from Brooklyn College and NYU in New York City and Suffolk University in Boston, with graduate degrees in music education and business. He devoted his professional life to helping others. After teaching music in schools, he was at McLean Hospital for 43 years; initially as music therapist, then initiating the SAGE program in Geriatric Division. Private work included music teaching and case management. He loved the outdoors, hiking and gardening. In his community of many years, he coached children in sports and played with Melrose Symphony Orchestra.
A memorial gathering will be held in the Farrar Chapel of Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, on Saturday, October 9th, 2021 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. At the family's request, masks are required inside the funeral home.
