Frank was born and raised in the steel town of Bethlehem, PA. He was the son of the late Frank and Ellen Smith. After graduating from Liberty High School, he attended Brown University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. He later went on to receive his Master's in Education degree from Harvard University. Franks first job was at the prestigious high school Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Cambridge. Competitive. Unassuming. Gracious. In his 60 years on the mat, these personal qualities of Frank are reflected in the thousands of wrestlers he coached. Wrestling was his passion. Few men, if any, have touched so many young men's lives. He is a member of the 300 Victory Club, a member of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, the New England Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame and in 2007 he was inducted into the Massachusetts Chapter of The National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Frank was a certified arborist and tree surgeon. In 1982, he founded Olympic Tree based out of Concord. The focus of Olympic Tree was providing professional, full-service tree care. Two of his customers included Concord Academy and The Orchard House.
Frank will be remembered as a mentor, teacher and coach that made an impact on so many lives throughout his life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wonderful wife, Bonnie, Frank is survived by his loving children, Mark Smith of Tucson, AZ and Becky Carter & her husband Gerry of MD. He was the proud grandfather of Beau Carter & Dylan Carter, and stepfather of Allan Kennedy of Maynard. He was the brother of the late Eleanor Fabozzi.
