Frank Bradford Counihan, 94, of Peabody, formerly of Concord, died Tuesday, October 27th at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester. He was the beloved husband of the late Wanda Jean (McCullough) Counihan who died in 1996.
Born in Boston on June 14, 1921 he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Lanie V. (Wooten) Counihan. He graduated from East Technical High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1940.
During World War II, from 1942 until 1945, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a Technician and Radio Operator. In 1950, using the GI bill, he received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from The Ohio State University.
From 1950 until 1966, he was a resident of Rocky River, Ohio and worked as a Supervisor and Industrial Engineer at General Motors in Cleveland. He retired in 1979 after 25 years at U. S. Steel Corporation in Cleveland and Worcester, Massachusetts. Following his retirement, he worked as a Software Consultant in Greater Boston.
A Concord resident from 1979 until 2010, he attended Trinitarian Congregational Church, was a former member of the Concord Lodge of Elks, and a member of the National Industrial Engineers Society. Previously, he resided in Holden from 1966 to 1979. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and Western Europe.
Survivors include his son, Brad M. Counihan and his wife Jodi of Wenham, his daughter, Linda A. Brooks of Cohasset, and his grandchildren, Ryan, Maxwell, and Riley Counihan and Matthew Brooks. He was also the brother of Richard A. Counihan, and the father in law of the late Richard Brooks.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 31st at 1 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2 pm in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. John C. Lombard, Senior Minister of the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Concord.
Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, where officers of the United States Air Force will present military honors.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Saturday, October 31st in recognition of Mr. Counihan's service to his country during World War II.
