Obituary

Francis Gerald Publicover, of Sudbury, MA and West Yarmouth, MA passed away peacefully on June 4, 2022 surrounded by his loving and devoted wife, Veronica, and his children. He was born on June 30, 1926 at home in Arlington, MA to Frances Aberle Publicover and Harold A. Publicover, the second of 13 children. Francis attended St. Agnes Elementary School and graduated from Arlington High School. He was an Eagle Scout as were his three sons. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy V-5 Aviation Program at the College of the Holy Cross. Frank attended Midshipman School at the University of Notre Dame and completed the V-12 program. Seven days after turning 19, the minimum age to be commissioned as an officer, Frank was commissioned as an Ensign. He was assigned as First Lieutenant on one of the ships sent for services during the atomic bomb tests off the Bikini Islands. Frank completed his B.S. degree in Economics at Boston College following his release from active military duty and joined the U.S. Navy Submarine Reserve. He embarked on a career in sales during which time he met his wife Veronica. Frank was recalled to active duty due to the Korean Conflict. He and Veronica left for his submarine assignment in Key West, Florida on their wedding day. He continued in the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving as Commanding Officer in the Submarine Division 1-8, Command 1-10 and Chief of Staff of Group Command-1-1 Boston, retiring after 28 years of Naval Service. In 1965, Frank established F.G. Publicover & Associates, and was a manufacturer's representative in the food service equipment industry for over 50 years covering New England. His wife, Veronica, sons James and Francis, Jr. and daughter, Marie, all worked with him at different times. He represented many companies including Garland Range, Hussman, Caddy Corp. and Alvey, Inc. Mr. Publicover was a former president of the Food Service Sales Representatives Assoc., and a member of the New England Gas Council. He was recognized in the industry as a regional and national sales leader as well as for his integrity and honesty. Frank could tell you what equipment was in many of the colleges, hospitals, schools and correctional institutions in New England because he was instrumental in facilitating those projects. In 1948, Frank joined the Ancient and Honor Artillery Company of Massachusetts, and is the longest standing member at 74 years. Frank loved the "Ancients" and traveled on many of their foreign trips. He was honored as "The 2006 Man of the Year" by the Ten of Us Club of AHAC. Frank was active in both his town and church serving as the postmaster for North Sudbury; serving on the Sudbury Planning, Building and Finance Committees; founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church; on the parish council; member of the Knights of Columbus; active with the Boy Scouts. Frank loved his family deeply and was devoted to his wife, Veronica and their seven children. Spending time on the Cape with his family, especially his grandchildren, was one of Frank's cherished activities. He was an avid reader and kept abreast of current events and trends. Guided by his strong faith, Frank's arms were always open to help others, be it family, friend or stranger. Francis is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Veronica, daughters Margaret (Michael) Kring, Ann (Matt) Warren, Joan (Richard) White, son James (Cathy) Publicover, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
