Obituary

Mrs. Fan Pratt Cabot Larner passed away at her home on February 12, 2019 after a long illness. She was 89 years old. Fan loved the town of Concord, was born there, and lived and worked there for most of her life. From 1986 to 1992, she served two terms on the Board of Selectman including one as the President of the Board. She was one of the original owner/operators of Perceptions, Inc, a shop on the Milldam that opened in 1973 and closed in 2018, where she was active in operations for 20 years. She also served on the Concord Chamber of Commerce. Prior to that, she worked as a realtor for Campbell Realty and as the Director of Volunteers at Emerson Hospital, where she had also been a Candy Striper at age 14. She was a Girl Scout in the 1930's and a Girl Scout leader in the 1950's. In 1998, she was given Concord's Honored Citizen Award. Born in Concord in 1930, she was the daughter of Edward S. and Fanny Bacon Hawes Pratt and was raised in an old Victorian home that used to be where Milldam Square Condominiums is now located on Main Street. As a young woman, she was a member of the Junior League and the Vincent Club in Boston where she enjoyed performing in plays. She attended Peter Buckley School, Concord Academy, and The Dobbs School in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Her father, Edward Pratt, originally from Newton was one of the planners of the Concord Country Club, where she was a member for most of her life. She was presented to society in 1948 and in 1951, she married Harold Cabot, Jr. with whom she had three children, Christine, Marshal, and Adele. That marriage ended in divorce in 1967. In 1998, she married Chet Larner of Concord until his death in 2011. Fan leaves behind her children, Marshal Cabot and his wife Sheryl of Groton, Adele Cabot and her husband Carey Upton of Los Angeles, CA, and Christine Cabot, five grandchildren: Audra Knight, Amanda Dolins, Heather Cabot, Michael Cabot, and Elisabeth Schneider, five great-grandchildren: Ella, Jenson, Jack, Mabel, and Benjamin, and one niece and nephew. She was the sister of the late Edward, Charles, and Herbert Pratt. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 pm in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Officiating will be the Rev. Marion Visel of First Parish in Concord. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Sunday, February 24th in recognition of Fan being selected as Concord's Honored Citizen in 1998. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Concord-Carlisle Community Chest, 19 Main Street, Suite 2, Concord, MA 01742. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
