Obituary

F. Ruth (Callery) Ploetz, 89, of Concord, died Wednesday February 29, 2012 at her Concord home. She was the beloved wife of the late George Parmann Ploetz who died in 2003. Born in Lowell on December 3, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Austin F. and Loretta (McCormack) Callery. She attended Lowell schools, was a 1940 graduate of Lowell High School and later received an Associate degree from Burdett College in Boston. She was employed as a Secretary for several years at the Boston and Maine Railroad. She was married to Mr. Ploetz in 1946 and in 1952 she and her family became original residents of the Conantum neighborhood in Concord. Mrs. Ploetz was active in her neighborhood, serving for many years on the Board of the Conantum Garden Club and also volunteering with the Girl Scouts in Conantum. In the early 1950's she performed with the Concord Players. An early proponent of Yoga, she also enjoyed sewing, knitting, bird watching and playing Bridge. She was a 60 year communicant of St. Bernard's and later Holy Family Parish in Concord. From 1972 until 1997, she was employed as a paraprofessional in the Business and Foreign Language Departments at Concord-Carlisle High School. She was the mother of Janet Elizabeth Ploetz of Lexington, Martha Jean Walker and her husband Bill of Concord, George Parmann Ploetz Jr. and his wife Debbie of Wilmington, NC and Paula Grace Ploetz of Concord, grandmother of Jeffrey and Mark Walker and Meredeth and George P. Ploetz III, sister of the late Austin B. Callery, and beloved cousin of Virginia Ryan Offer of Lynbrook, NY, Ann McCormack of Rutherford, NJ and Arthur McCormack of Long Beach, CA. Funeral will be held Monday March 5th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., CONCORD CENTER at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord at 10 am. Interment will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Sunday March 4th from 1 to 5 pm. Donations in her memory may be made to North American Thrombosis Forum, 368 Boylston St., Brookline, MA 02445 (www.natfonline.org). Cemetery: Interment will follow the Mass in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visitation: Visiting hours Sunday March 4th from 1 to 5 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Service: Funeral Monday March 5th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., CONCORD CENTER at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord at 10 am.
