Obituary

Ethel I. (McPhillips) Dalton, 99, a former longtime Concord resident, died on Sunday, December 6, 2020 following a period of declining health. She was the dedicated wife of the late John P. Dalton who died in 2000. Born in Concord on September 22, 1921, Ethel was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Jane (Ashmore) McPhillips. After graduating from Concord High School, she completed the program at Shephard Gill School of Nursing in 1944. Over the course of her career in healthcare, Ethel provided compassionate care as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Emerson Hospital, the offices of Dr. Fraser and Dr. Cleary, and as a private duty nurse in the Concord area. She also assisted her husband in managing the family farm. From 1984 until 2002, Ethel resided in Harwich, where she was active with the Council on Aging and regularly attended Mass at Holy Trinity Church. Devoted to her faith, she was a Grand Regent for Our Lady's Catholic Daughters. More recently, Ethel enjoyed living at RiverCourt Residences in Groton. She leaves behind two sons, John Dalton and his wife Deborah of Beverly and David Dalton and his wife Carol of Concord, five grandchildren, Kara Waters and her husband James of Beverly, Kathryn Dalton and her husband Craig Friedman of Scottsdale, AZ, Shannon Dalton of Concord, LCpl. Sean Dalton, USMC of Concord and Brian Dalton of Concord, two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Waters and Ryan Friedman, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Jessie Dalton and sister to the late T. Frederick, Francis, J. Edwin, Herbert and John McPhillips and Marion Selenius. Ethel's family will gather privately in the Dee Funeral Home on Thursday, December 10th, followed by burial at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord.
