Obituary

Ernestina Pagoaga, affectionately known as "Tina", of Maynard, former longtime West Concord resident, died at home on Saturday, June 11th with René Pagoaga, her cherished husband and soul mate of 60 years by her side. She was 90 years old. Born in Humuya, Honduras on March 27, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Juan Ramon David and Maria (Galeano) David. One of eleven siblings, she attended a Parochial school while residing in Honduras and spent much of her time growing up on and assisting in the operation of her family's farm. After arriving in the United States in 1960, Mrs. Pagoaga spent nearly forty years working for the D'Ambrosio, Santis, and Simmons families of Concord. Two of the proudest moments in her life was becoming an American Citizen in 1988, and being blessed with the birth of her daughter, Maya, later in life after struggling to have children. She was a parishioner at the former Our Lady Help of Christians Church in West Concord. In addition, she was an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress. A talented cook, Tina was famous for her homemade Tamales at Christmas time and enjoyed listening to her Spanish CD's while in the kitchen. She treasured the outdoors and nature as well as indulging in barbeque food, a glass of White Zinfandel, and ice-cold beer. The beach was also very special to her, and she enjoyed staying active by exercising on a daily basis. Tina had an indelible zest for life. She will be remembered most for her beautiful smile, a trademark that could not be more appropriate for someone who was humble, positive, and shared unconditional love for her family and friends. One of her notable pastimes was taking a relaxing, long car ride with Maya and shopping at all of her favorite stores, especially Dollar Tree and Market Basket. She also took pleasure in spending time at Maya and Paul's home to enjoy family dinners and celebrate birthdays and holidays. A devoted son in law, Tina and Paul had a very special relationship, as he would often accompany her to doctor appointments and ensure that she had everything she needed to be comfortable and happy. From 2011 to 2014, she worked alongside Maya in her cleaning business. She adored all of their clients, especially the children and family pets, who loved her in return. Tina often remarked that this was a very special and wonderful time in her life, as she took an immense amount of pride in her work. In addition to her husband and love of her life, René, survivors include her daughters, Maya Pagoaga Berlied and her husband Paul Berlied of Concord, and Liz Nelson and her husband Jeff Nelson of Acton, her son, René Pagoaga, Jr. and his wife Sandra Pagoaga of Clinton, her grandchildren, Chris, Jacob, and Maya-Elizabeth Pagoaga, and Samantha and Kristina Nelson, her great-granddaughters, Emma and Kylie, her sisters, Theresa, Suzanna, Meya, and Anita, all of Honduras, her god-daughter, Amanda Scribner of Littleton, her best friend, Nery Orellana of St. Louis, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Six brothers predeceased her. The funeral service and burial is private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, 9 Erie Drive, Suite 101, Natick, MA 01760 (www.lls.org). The Pagoaga family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at Massachusetts General Hospital at Boston/Concord, Care Dimensions Hospice and the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, and at Emerson Hospital on North 6 Wing in Concord. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
