Obituary

LINCOLN, MA – Ellin Fairfax Fuller, 87, of York, PA, formerly of Lincoln and Chatham, MA, died, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Pennsylvania. Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 17, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Paul and Eleanor (Shea) Fuller. She attended Berkley Institute in Brooklyn, NY where she later served as Registrar, and Packard Junior College in New York. For many years, prior to her retirement in 1992, Ellin was an Administrative Secretary at Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, MA. Previously she worked as an Administrative Secretary at Contract Engineering Company in Maynard, as a Personnel Counselor at Double M Placement Company in Burlington, MA, as a Compensation and Benefits Specialist at Cullinane Database Systems in Wellesley, MA, as a Job Developer at Comprehensive Training Act in Newton, MA, as a Compensation Analyst at First National Bank of Boston, a Secretary at Pinkerton Detective Agency, as Registrar at Berkley Institute in Brooklyn, NY and as a Private Secretary and Editorial Assistant at Field and Stream Publishing in Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, she helped establish the Boston office of Kaplan Learning centers. A recent resident of York, Pennsylvania, she previously lived in Brooklyn, New York, Lincoln, MA and West Chatham, MA. She was interested in current events, politics, enjoyed cooking, travel and researching family history. From 1999 until 2009, Ellin was the Treasurer of the Strandway Village Condominium Association in Chatham, Massachusetts. Ellin overcame many hardships in her life and was determined to succeed despite the odds against her. As a small child, she overcame tuberculosis and degenerative bone disease of her hip through an experimental artificial hip surgery performed by renowned surgeon and orthopedist Dr. Fred Albee in the late 1920's. In her youth, she learned to walk, roller skate, and ride a bicycle. She married, had children and held multiple positions within industry and played an active role in state and local politics, and even held elective office as Town Water Commissioner for the Town of Lincoln, MA from 1994 until 1998. As the town chairperson for the Republican Party in Lincoln, she coordinated many events in support of the re-election campaign for Senator Edward Brooke of Massachusetts. Ellin had many unusual attributes such as her quick wit, was fiercely independent, curious, stubborn, loyal and stunning. As young women, she would often stop traffic on busy New York streets. She had chance encounters with Winston Churchill, Dwight Eisenhower, and the Young Queen Elizabeth. She is survived by her children, Christine Salvatore and her husband Dennis Baer of Evanston, Illinois and Anne Meriam and her husband Tim Mackin of York, Pennsylvania, her grandchildren, Michael Baer and Daniel Baer, both of Evanston, IL, and Ashleigh Mackin and Caitlyne Mackin, both of York, PA, her step grandchildren, Richard Mackin of Fort Meyers, FL, Becky Mackin Cunningham of North Pole, Alaska and Tim Mackin, Jr. of Bolling Green, KY, her great-grandchildren, Rachel Schultz, Blake Schultz, Nicole Mackin, Aiden Cunningham, her cousin, Lisa Binsse of Quebec, Canada, many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and many special people she had met along her journey to include neighbors, co-workers, and longtime companions located in Italy, Sweden, England, California, Florida, New York and Massachusetts.
