Bette was born on May 24th, 1920 in Bangor, ME to Helen Natalie Barker (Glass) and Ira Willard Barker. She grew up in Bangor and Portland, graduating from the University of Maine in 1942. After Gilbert passed in 2011, Bette continued to be very involved in the Deaconess community, including writing the official history of the Deaconess. Bette was an active member of her local PEO chapter, an avid genealogist, and a wonderful entertainer.
