Elizabeth "Bette" Grimm Hoskins, 86, of Vineyard Haven and Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in peace and in the warm embrace of her family.
She leaves William "Bill" K. Hoskins, her beloved husband of 59 years; son Bruce Hoskins Barlag and wife Kathy; son William "Andy" Hoskins and wife Megan; son John Hoskins and wife Wendy; daughter Elizabeth "Lissa" Hoskins Dow and husband Robert; and daughter Allison Hoskins Levit and husband Lev. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Bette was born in New York City, the daughter of Arthur and Alice Daley Grimm and sister to Arthur Jr. and Jane Grimm Grant. She was raised in Syracuse, New York.
Bette attended Wheelock College and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Upon graduation she ventured to Japan, working for the Department of Defense, to educate children of servicemen and women stationed abroad. Upon her return, she worked as an elementary teacher for the Lincoln (Massachusetts) Public Schools.
Bette and Bill moved to Cincinnati to raise their family. Bette continued her passion with the formation of a consulting practice that helped children with special educational needs. She was recognized as a pioneer in early diagnosis of dyslexia and special programs to help children learn and develop. She earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Cincinnati.
Bette and family moved to Kansas City for a number of years, later retiring to Boston and the tranquil beaches of Martha's Vineyard.
Perfect moments for Bette included being surrounded by her family and friends, enjoying beach time, family reunions, skiing, or simply chatting with trusted friends.
A private funeral service for immediate family will be held on Saturday, March 13th. This summer, a Celebration of Bette's life will be held on Martha's Vineyard, date to be announced.
