Elizabeth Ashley Gardner, 88, of Concord , formerly of Belmont died Saturday November 16, 2013 in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late David W. Gardner. Born in Newton on July 23, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Thomas Alton Ashley II and Mary (Kelley) Ashley. She attended Belmont schools and was a graduate of Belmont High School where she was voted by her classmates as the student who has 'done the most for BHS'. She later graduated from Bradford Junior College in Bradford. Following her marriage to Mr. Gardner in 1949, she became an original resident of the Bridge Acres Development in Concord in 1953. During the 1960's and 1970's she was employed as the Concord correspondent for The Boston Globe. She also worked in public relations for the American Red Cross in Concord. A long time active member of Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, she volunteered in the Church's Tri-Con Gift Shop located in Wright's Tavern on Concord's Milldam, and also as a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Gardner worked in advertising and in public relations for The Concord Journal in the 1980's and 1990's, and was the author of their popular weekly column 'Looking Back' for many years. A licensed Concord Tour Guide, she led walking tours and gave insight and information to tour participants on the many famous people and historical sites in the Town. In 1985 she was a member of the Town's 350th Birthday Celebration Committee. She was a former volunteer with the Concord Girl Scouts, was a member of the Bridge Acres neighborhood Bridge Club, and since her youth enjoyed many summers vacationing on Martha's Vineyard. She was the mother of Cynthia G. Sutherland of Middlebury, CT, David Ashley Gardner of Concord and Bruce Woodbury Gardner of Charleston, SC., grandmother of Christopher S. and Ian Ashley Sutherland, both of Middlebury, CT and Kyle M. Sutherland of Portland, OR., great grandmother of Sierra and Westwood Sutherland, both of Middlebury, CT and sister of the late Thomas Alton Ashley III and Priscilla Ashley Jackson.

Memorial service Friday December 6th at 2 pm in Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord Center.
Visitation:
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center will be held on Thursday December 5th from 4 to 8 pm.
