Obituary

Elinor Palmer Lynch of Concord died at home in her sleep on May 15th. She was 92 years old. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on December 27, 1924, she was the second of four children. She loved to draw from a young age and dreamed of becoming an artist. Upon graduation from Massachusetts College of Art in 1945, she began her career as an art teacher and portrait artist. Fluent in oils and pastels, watercolor was her first love. She continued to draw, paint and make art into her 90's and had a long and memorable career teaching art to children. Her family and friends remember her as an artist, wife, mother, traveler, brownie troop leader, den mother, terrible driver, inspiring and dedicated teacher, proud grandmother, voracious reader and life of the party. She was never at a loss for words. She loved bright colors, museums, airplanes, martinis, striped jerseys, black coffee, fresh flowers, newspapers, old movies, hats, children, dogs, native strawberries and chocolate in all forms, most especially Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Ellie was predeceased by her husband James Doherty Lynch and her long-time partner, Elliot Tarlow, and by her sister, Peggy Costello. She is survived by her brother Pete Palmer and his wife Jane of Washington DC and her sister Hildreth Aldrich and her husband Don, of Fripp Island, SC., and by her children, Caroline McCloy and her husband James McCloy of Concord, MA and her son, Ben Lynch and his wife, Josie Patterson of Cambridge, MA. She also leaves four grandsons, Miles McCloy and his wife Elena Mamatas, Jackson McCloy, Jamie Lynch and Peter Lynch and too many nieces and nephews to list, but she loved them all. A service celebrating her life will be held at First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Road, Concord, MA on Friday, June 2 at 11:00 in the morning. Reception to follow. Donations in her memory may be sent to The Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust through the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, 101 Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA 01852. www.glcfoundation.org. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
