Elinor M. (Mahoney) Condon, age 95, a lifelong Concord resident, died Friday, September 4th at the Bedford V.A. Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 63 years of the late James M. Condon who died in 2010.
Born in Concord on April 27, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Richard and Josephine (Kelleher) Mahoney. She attended Concord Public Schools and graduated from Concord High School in 1938.
During World War II, Mrs. Condon served in the United States Navy as a telephone operator at the Naval Mine Warfare Test Station in Solomons, MD. Previously, she worked as a telephone operator for four years in Concord Center.
She and her husband enjoyed many years of tennis and golf as well as hiking, canoeing, and cross-country skiing near the family camp in Sandwich, NH. She was a longtime volunteer in the Emerson Hospital gift shop and as a private caretaker through the Bullock/Lawton Nursing Agency. She was also a member of the West Concord Women's Club.
Mrs. Condon was the mother of Judy Cosgrove of Maynard, James Condon and his wife Bette Ann of Maynard, Kathy Whynott of Northampton, Joseph Condon of Concord, and the late Dennis Condon. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Richard Mahoney, William Mahoney, and Josephine Johnson.
A private funeral service will be held in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by interment in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on the day of Mrs. Condon's burial in recognition of her service in the United States Navy.
