Obituary

ELEANOR ST. AGNAN (SULLIVAN) FINIGAN 2/14/1924 – 7/24/2015 Eleanor St. Agnan (Sullivan) Finigan, "Pinky" to family and friends, died on July 24th in Concord surrounded by her six children. Born in Cambridge on Valentine's Day February 14, 1924, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph F. and Mary St. Agnan (Casey) Sullivan. She was raised in Arlington and attended St. Agnes School and Arlington High School. Eleanor graduated from Wheaton College in Norton in 1945 where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation she worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the Manhattan Project. Eleanor was proud to have celebrated her 70th college reunion this past May. Eleanor married the love of her life, John B. Finigan, in 1949 at St. Agnes Church in Arlington, then started their married life of 56 years in Concord. She was a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church and a member of the Women's Sodality. Eleanor enjoyed knitting, bridge and golf and was a member at the Concord Country Club. She also enjoyed traveling. The high point of her traveling was a visit to the Vatican where she met with Pope John Paul II. Family was the very center of Eleanor's life. Her kind, gentle, loving heart and selfless nature made her a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and true friend. She was the beloved mother of six children: Mary St. Agnan and her husband, Ronald Kaufman of Duxbury, MA; Susan Patricia and her husband, John Coons of Irvine, CA; Carol Jean and her husband, Christopher Wilson of Concord; Kathleen Eleanor and her late husband, William Stone of Concord; John B. Finigan, Jr. and his wife, Teri of Concord and William Joseph Finigan and his wife, Courtney of North Falmouth, MA. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers Dr. Philip Joseph Sullivan, John Francis Sullivan and Joseph Leo Sullivan. Visiting hours will be held at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, on Tuesday, July 28th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29th from the Dee Funeral Home at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the family burial plot at St. Bernard's Cemetery on Bedford Street in Concord.
