Eleanor F.'Ellie' (Smith) Burgeson, 84, of Concord, Mass. , formerly of Hendersonville, North Carolina, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Rivercrest Nursing Home in Concord. She was the wife of Glenn "Bergy" Burgeson and the late James S. Nelson. Born in Oak Park. Illinois on April 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Henry William and Mary Ethel (Davis) Smith. In 1945, she graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, Illinois. She attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago where she received a Bachelor in Education degree, Magna Cum Laude. For many years, Mrs. Burgeson was a third grade teacher in Illinois. A Concord resident since 2007, she previously lived in Hendersonville, North Carolina and Stamford, Connecticut and was an avid bridge player. In addition to her husband, Bergy, survivors include 2 daughters, Carol Palmer of Hopkinton and Susan Abrams of Westwood, 4 grandchildren,Jessie Abrams of Virginia, Laurie Palmer of California, Susan Roux of Dedham and Erin Palmer of Hampden,1 great grand daughter Cailyn Roux of Dedham, 1 brother, Robert Smith of Troy, Michigan. Also survived by her husband's children, Linda Burgeson of Denver, Colorado, Lucy Burgeson of Vista, California, Jill Klos of Honeoye Falls, New York and Mark Burgeson of Virginia City, Virginia, seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Slate Nelson and grandmother of the late Robyn Abrams. A memorial service will be held in the Duvall Chapel of the New England Deaconess Association, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA on Thursday March 29th at 2 P.M. Officiating will be the Rev. Lilian Warner, Chaplain of the New England Deaconess Association. Contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
