Edward Thomas Smith, of Carlisle, MA, formerly of Concord, MA and Hartford, CT, died Feb. 22, 2013 after a long illness in the presence of his devoted family. Ed was born in Hartford, Connecticut to Edward and Kathleen Smith on October 24, 1934. He attended the Cathedral of St. Joseph School and Hartford Public High School where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. Upon graduating from The University of Connecticut, Ed began his professional career working for the Connecticut State Highway Department. Thereafter, he became a real estate representative for the Friendly Ice Cream Corp., W.T. Grant Company and A&P Supermarkets before starting his own business as a commercial real estate developer and broker. His most notable clients were McDonalds Corp. and Darden Restaurants throughout New England. Ed was the devoted father to four sons: E. Thomas Smith and his wife Sheila of Charleston, SC, and their two sons, Ryan and Collin; Jeffrey J. Smith and his wife Mary of South Windsor, CT and their two sons, Jamie and Shane; Connor W. Smith and Tyler W. Smith of Carlisle, MA. Ed's greatest joy was his wife and best friend, Susan Cadieux-Smith. Susan is a tremendous mother to his youngest sons and provided strength and courage as Ed faced the many medical challenges of the past three years. Ed also leaves his brothers: William J. Smith and his wife Alicia of Plainville, CT; Raymond K. Smith and his wife Irene of West Hartford, CT; J. Brian Smith and his wife Karen of West Hartford, CT and his only sister who he loved dearly, Kathleen (Kem) Calio and her husband Richard of South Windsor, CT. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Kathleen Smith of West Hartford, CT, and his brother, Robert J. Smith of South Windsor, CT. He also leaves Robert's wife, Diane Smith of South Windsor, CT ; and his wife Susan's family, his sister-in-law Charlene Drake of Chicopee, MA; his brother-in-law Keith Cadieux and his wife Shirley of Methuen, MA; and his late brother-in-law David Cadieux. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Cemetery:
Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Visitation:
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center will be on Monday Feb. 25th from 4 to 8 pm.
Service:
Funeral will be held Tuesday Feb. 26th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 10 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 11 am.
