He was a good man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. For many years he owned and operated Ed Smith's TV and radio in addition to his full time day job(s). He was a past employee of the Concord Light Department, Sperry Rand, Mitre Corporation, and Minneapolis Honeywell. After his retirement he became an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, bocce ball, fishing, sailing and in earlier years square dancing, golfing and bowling. He also loved simple things like playing cards with friends; many of these friends were lifelong friends. He was a Yankees fan in a Red Sox Nation, but enjoyed watching all sports. He taught all his children that you can do anything you set your mind to do and the value of hard work. A man of many talents, he was able to repair anything. He was fiercely proud of his military service in the Navy in WWII. He served on the LST 511, the Invasion of Normandy and made over 50 trips across the channel. He participated in Operation Tiger, a pre-Normandy invasion, one of the worst Naval disasters in history and honored his oath never to speak of it for 50 years.
