Obituary

Edith Claire (Rosa) Sparre, 91, former longtime resident of Lexington, passed away at Benchmark Senior Living at Robbins Brook in Acton on Friday, February 24, 2023. She was the beloved wife for 67 years of the late Carl W. Sparre, Jr. who died in October of 2022.

She was born in Cambridge on January 30, 1932, as the daughter of the late William and Rose (Sistilio) Rosa.

Edith embodied a passion for education. Prior to retirement, she cherished her role as a Teacher for the Cambridge and Lexington public school systems. In 1991, she felt immense pride after being selected as Teacher of the Year. President Bush presented her with the award during a planned visit to the White House.

Throughout her life, her number one concern was for her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She and Carl treasured a close bond, built on their unconditional love for each other, along with the quality values they lived by. She enjoyed travelling with her husband and family, which included annual trips to Longboat Key, Florida and spending time at their second home in North Falmouth. She will also be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, as well as her admiration of nature, flowers and being outdoors.

She was the loving mother of Janet C. Erne and her fiancé Edward Cole of Ashburnham, Carol M. Famosi and her husband Daniel of Brockton and Susan J. Silva and her husband Joseph of Brockton. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Edith was the mother-in-law of the late Ray Erne, and sister to the late James Rosa.
