Dr Sidney Kligerman of Concord, MA, formerly Knoxville, TN, West Hartford, CT and West Newton, MA died on 22 August 2011. He was predeceased by Catherine Petersen Kligerman and Kira. Dr. Kligerman, born in Chicago in 1915, graduated from the University of Illinois and the University's College of Medicine in 1940. He interned at the Alexian Brothers Hospital and Cook County Hospital, both in Chicago. Dr. Kligerman performed general medical duties in the Army from 1941 to 1945. Following his discharge from the service, he served residencies in psychiatry in Worcester State Hospital, Worcester, Massachusetts, and Cushing Veterans Administration Hospital in Framingham, Massachusetts. Dr. Kligerman held psychiatric positions of rank at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Cushing V.A. Hospital, and Worcester State Hospital, where he became Director of Psychiatry in 1956. In the teaching sphere, he held appointments at Tufts Medical School, Yale University School of Medicine, and Yale University Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. Dr. Kligerman engaged in private practice of psychiatry in Boston from 1959 to 1963. In August of 1963 he joined the Connecticut Department of Mental Health as Chief of Hospital Services, became Chief of Mental Health Services, and in October of 1964 was appointed Deputy Commissioner. Dr Kligerman was the acting head of the Connecticut Valley Hospital in 1964. Dr. Kligerman continued his private practice in West Hartford, CT until 1991 and was an active member of the American Psychoanalytic Association. He was a member of the Connecticut State Medical Society and the Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis. During his retirement Dr Kligerman continued as a serious student of foreign languages, especially French, in which he gained fluency. He and his wife Catherine traveled extensively in France and other parts of Europe. Dr Kligerman is survived by Vicki Wengrow, Jacksonville, Fl, Martha and Jeremy Wyant, Sudbury, MA, Barbara and Phillip Olson, South Africa, Miriam Kligerman, Albuquerque, NM,; five grandchildren Rebecca Fixel, Charissa Olson, Cheryl Olson Reider, Rachael Wyant and Abigail Wyant; and one great granddaughter Abigail Fixel. He is also survived by his sisters in law Mary Ellen Weiner, Sandy Hook, CT and Grace Petersen, Newington, CT; nieces and nephew, Elizabeth Weiner, Santa Ana, CA, Julie Gill, Bethel, CT, Max Weiner, Livermore, CA, Maxine Siri of Rockville, MD and Steven Kligerman of New Jersey. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 28th from 12 to 1:30 PM at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, Massachusetts 01742. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, CT.
