Dr. Joseph F. Kenneally, Jr., DMD, age 85, retired Oral Surgeon, of Chatham, formerly of Concord and Bedford, died peacefully Sunday, April 24th at the Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable. He was the devoted husband for 57 years of Joan M. (Doherty) Kenneally.
Born in Whitman, Massachusetts on August 11, 1930, he was the beloved son of the late Dr. Joseph F. Kenneally, Sr., and Madelen (Welch) Kenneally.
A proud Whitman native, he attended the town's public schools and graduated from Whitman High School in 1948.
He completed his undergraduate degree at Stonehill College, where he was a member of the school's first graduating class. Subsequently, he received his graduate degree from Boston College and his doctorate in medical dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston.
Dr. Kenneally served as an Oral Surgeon at Emerson Hospital for over twenty-five years. He also owned and operated a successful private practice in Concord, prior to his retirement to his beloved Cape Cod.
A previous longtime Concord resident, he was a faithful communicant at the former Our Lady Help of Christians Church in West Concord. In his retirement, he was a devoted parishioner of Holy Redeemer Parish in Chatham, MA.
A resident of Chatham since 1997, Dr. Kenneally was an avid bird watcher, a former president of the Nuttall Ornithological Club, and a longtime member of the National Audubon Society. For thirteen years, he also resided in Bedford where he served on the Conservation Commission.
In addition to his wife, Joan, survivors include his children, Mary Ellen Kenneally of Groton, Maura (Kenneally) Clark and her husband Paul of Concord, Joseph F. Kenneally, III of Sanford, ME, and Heather Ann Kenneally and her fiancée Ronald Bargantine of Barrington, RI, his grandchildren, Thomas, Benjamin, Charles, and Faith Marie, his brother, Norman Kenneally and his wife Dana of Morehead City, NC, his sister, Kathleen Reidy and her husband Robert of Albuquerque, NM, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 9 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be Friday, April 29th from 4 to 8 pm.
