Joseph Michael Arcidi of Concord Massachusetts died peacefully at home in the presence of his family on Sunday afternoon June 5, 2022. He is now reunited with Anne (Lepkowski) Arcidi, his wife of 60 years who predeceased him in 2012. From his marriage until his death Joseph dedicated his life to his seven children – he and Anne fostered a great respect for education, a strong work ethic, and a devout Catholic faith.
Joseph is survived by his sister, Dorothy Gangi, a resident of Reno, Nevada. He was predeceased by his parents, Carmella (Simone) and Alfio Arcidiacono and his brothers Michael Arcidiacono, Louis Arcidy, and Alfred Arcidi. Joseph was the father of Joanne Swiderski, wife of Dr. Edward Swiderski of Westborough, Dr. Camille Arcidi of Concord, Dr. Joseph Arcidi Jr., husband of Janette Arcidi, of Eureka, California, Theodore Arcidi of Manchester, New Hampshire, Philip Arcidiacono of Concord, Christine O'Leary, wife of Robert O'Leary of Carlisle, and Anthony Arcidi of New York City. He also had ten grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph met Anne Lepkowski, a registered nurse, when both were officers in the US Air Force at Sampson Air Force Base. Shortly after their marriage in 1952 he enrolled in dental school at the University of Buffalo. Immediately after earning his Doctor of Dental Science degree, he completed the two-year orthodontic training program at the University of Buffalo. He and Anne were the parents of five children when he finished orthodontic studies and brought the family to Massachusetts, where two more were born. Joseph began practicing orthodontics in Concord in the mid 1960s and over the next 50 years he created beautiful smiles for many hundreds of children and adolescents. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a lifetime member of the Massachusetts Dental Society and an active member of the Middlesex District. Joseph was gifted with great clinical skills and enjoyed a natural rapport with patients. He loved orthodontics. It was his opportunity to help young people become confident adolescents.
As a member of Nashawtuc Country Club for 40 years, Joseph enjoyed time spent both on the golf course and involved in the Club's many social activities with his wife Anne, family and colleagues. He loved the challenge of perfecting his golf game, but he particularly enjoyed the company of the many friends he met over the years playing in Friday Scotch matches and weekend tournaments. In earlier years Joseph was an avid gardener with a flourishing vegetable garden appreciated by many.
Joseph and Anne were exceptional parents, both highly accomplished academically and happily engaged with their children throughout their lives. Joseph delighted in his grandchildren, and they were equally happy to be with him.
Joseph and Anne were dedicated to their family and to the Church. Joseph was a decades-long member of the Catholic Alumni Sodality at Immaculate Conception Church in Boston and a lector for many years at St. Casimir's Church in Maynard. His family trusts that the resurrected Christ will look kindly on Joseph's faithful and generous life.
