Born in Newton, Massachusetts on October 19,1919, he was the son of the late Chester Hunt Sears and Edith Hubbard Sears. He graduated from the Fessenden School in 1933 where his father headed the History department. After graduating from Newton High School I 1936, he was an economics major at Harvard College, and graduated in 1940. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1942. After serving in the Navy in World War II, he settled in Saco, Maine where he raised his family until moving to Concord in 1958. Mr Sears held comptrollership positions with W.H. Nichols Company, and Saco Lowell Shops. He was a treasurer at West Point Pepperell, and a financial vice president at both Draper Corporation and Amtel Corporation, and also worked at Parker-Hannifin Corporation. Doug was always able to keep his family in Concord despite job changes that necessitated commuting to Maine, Georgia, Alabama, and Rhode Island.
Doug was always athletic and physically active, and enjoyed gardening and swimming. In his sixties, he and his wife Anne became certified in scuba diving, and completed over five hundred deep sea dives in oceans, seas, and reefs around the world. He and Anne were avid nature photographers. While diving Doug and Anne collected specimens for the Boston Aquarium. Doug and his wife relished preserving native flora. As a team, they researched and photographed the wildflowers of Concord, and extended their interests to flowers and corals all around the world. Doug dutifully toted the screen and projector to Anne's lectures at local ladies clubs, the First Parish and Newbury Court.
Doug was humble, hard working, who enjoyed intellectual challenges. He dedicated his life to the tireless and generous support of his family, and was a proud husband, father, and grandfather.
