Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Bowse) Sawyer, 84, of Acton, formerly of Concord died Wednesday June 4, 2014 in Littleton. She was the beloved wife of 62 years of the late Richard Clay Sawyer who died in 2010. Born in Concord on April 5, 1930 she was the daughter of the late L. Archibald and Dorothy L. (Wilder) Bowse. She attended Harvey Wheeler School in West Concord and later Concord High School. Mrs. Sawyer was employed at the former Andy Boy Plant in West Concord and as a school bus driver for 18 years for Acton and Concord public schools. She retired in 1999 after 17 years as a clerk at the Littleton Post Office, previously working in transport at the Boston Post office. A resident of Acton since 1960, she was a former CCD teacher at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in West Acton. An avid candlepin bowler, she also enjoyed camping with her husband and children in the White Mountains and at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Survivors include her children, Ronald C. Sawyer of Natick, Kevin F. Sawyer and Deborah Lee Sawyer, both of Acton, her sister Virginia M. Bowse of Stow, her brother Charles F. Bowse of Rhode Island, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Richard Wayne Sawyer and Dorothy Emily Bourgeois, and sister of the late Helen E. Fenton and Jean Giordano. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th from 4 to 7 PM in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER. Funeral will be on Saturday , June 7th from the Dee Funeral Home at 7:45 am, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard, Massachusetts. Interment will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord, Massachusetts. Arrangements under the care of Dee Funeral Home of Concord, Susan M. Dee and Charles W. Dee, Jr.,Funeral Directors. .
