Doreen L. Amaral (née Harper), age 81, of Holden, beloved grandmother, mother, sister, and friend, died from leukemia on July 1, 2018. Born in London, England, Doreen married John P. Amaral in Swindon, Wiltshire and emigrated to the U.S. in 1958. Doreen and John were married until his death in 1979. After careers as a Registered Nurse and Massage Therapist, Doreen volunteered at Wachusett Greenways, Meals on Wheels, and the Holden Senior Center for many years. She is survived by her siblings, Mary, Jean, and James and his wife Jane in the U.K.; her children and their spouses, Jim Amaral and Dolores Carbonneau, John and Diane Amaral, David Amaral, Stephen and Melanie Amaral, and Jean Amaral, and their half-sister, Kristine Bowen and her spouse Michelle DeCoste; and her grandchildren, Jonathan Amaral and his wife Samone, Benjamin Amaral, Megan Amaral, Sophia Carbonneau, and Sadie Amaral. The family held a private burial service on July 3, 2018 at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, MA. In lieu of flowers, Doreen asked that donations be made to Be Like Brit (https://belikebrit.org/).
