Donald O. Smith, Jr., 69, of Wrentham, MA, passed away on February 20, 2025.

He was born in Hingham, MA on November 22, 1955, the son of the late Jeanmary and Donald O. Smith.

He is survived by his siblings, Laura McKenna and her husband Dave of Concord, MA, Priscilla Simons and her husband John of Lake Bluff, IL, Rebecca Moesinger of Nantucket MA, David Smith and wife Rejane of Winchester, MA, Sarah Carter and husband Paul of Southboro, MA and his brother-in-law, Fred Dwelley of Millis, MA.  He was also the brother of the late Roberta Graham and Alison Dwelley

Donald was born with Profound Autism and was never able to use the spoken language. There was not much known about the condition in the 1950s and 60s. Donny attended private schools and with careful supervision was part of numerous studies to help the medical community learn more about this disability. It was common to see university students and medical scientists at their Hingham home working and studying Donny's behavior. His family believes that Donny made a contribution to the further understanding of Autism Spectrum disorder. Donny has always had round the clock supervision and was fortunate to live in Massachusetts where such help and support was provided. Donny had a large and supportive family who loved him very much.

There are no formal services planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to the Wrentham Development Center, PO Box 144, Wrentham, MA 02093.
