Donald M. 'Hoppy' Hopkins, 77, of Concord, died Wednesday February 13, 2013 in Littleton. Born in Concord on November 7, 1935 he was the son of the late Thomas F. Hopkins Sr. and Josie Mae (Murchie) Hopkins. He attended Concord Public Schools and was a 1953 graduate of Concord High School. During the mid 1950's, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Straubing, Germany with the 8th Ordinance Company. Mr. Hopkins retired in 1992 after over 35 years of employment with the Town of Concord. He began his career in 1956 with the Tree Department, and from 1958 until his retirement in 1992, was employed by the Town's Light Department, retiring as General Line Foreman. During his retirement years he worked part time for the Carlisle School System and for Colonial Gardens in Concord. He was a long time member of the Concord Independent Battery, a Life member of the Concord Lodge of Elks and a former member of the Musketaquid Sportsman's Club in Concord. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed ringing the bell for the Salvation Army during the holiday season and family vacations at the Red House on Great East Lake in Wakefield, New Hampshire. He was also an avid fan and follower of the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include three daughters, Tish Hopkins of Concord, Mary Higbee and her husband Chris of Winchendon and Christina Byrne of Worcester, his grandchildren Jessica, Jordan and Jamison Higbee, his sister Brenda Pulis of Concord. He was also the godfather of Joanne Lawton Garver of Maynard and Ray McHugh of Hubbardston and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Monday Feb. 18th in recognition of Mr. Hopkins service to his country in the U.S. Army.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday February 17th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. An Elks Memorial service will be held on Sunday evening at 7:30 pm.
