Dianne McConville Weiss, of Concord, passed away peacefully of pneumonia on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by family members. She was 81.
She was born in Queens, New York on March 1, 1944, the daughter of the late Kathleen (Corcoran) McConville and Hugh Joseph McConville. She earned a bachelor's degree from Alfred University and master's degrees from Columbia University and Tufts University. Dianne was the founder and executive director of The Family Place, a nonprofit parenting resources center in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
Dianne was a longtime member of First Parish in Concord, where she sang in the choir and was a founding member of the Transcendentalism Council. She had a deep interest in Concord's literary history, and served on the Board of Directors of the Thoreau Society. She was a board member and volunteer for the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library, and enjoyed weekly meetings of a writing group at the Fowler Library.
Dianne loved happy times with family and friends, dinners at Chang An, weekends in Gloucester, good books, good movies, and Broadway show tunes.
She is survived by her husband, Victor Curran; her son Evan and daughter-in-law Mikel and their daughters (all of Newton); her daughter Jenna of Maplewood, New Jersey; Victor's daughter Marcelia Brown and son Andrew Curran and their spouses and children (all of Greenfield, Massachusetts); her cousin John Corcoran and his wife Dorothy, of Calabasas, California; and a large and loving extended family.
A private burial service for family members was held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. A memorial service will be held for Dianne at First Parish in Concord on Saturday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Dianne's memory may be made to the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library .
