Dexter P. Smith, 85 , of Concord died Saturday November 6, 2010 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 49 years of Margaret Selma (Carlson) Smith.
Born in Biddeford, Maine on June 24, 1925 he was the son of the late Ernest and Grace (Perkins) Smith. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Smith was retired from Harvard University Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics at Harvard Observatory.
In addition to his wife Margaret, he is survived by a loving daughter Kelley Smith-Jenkins of Shirley, a devoted granddaughter Megan Jenkins of Shirley, a brother Edwin B. Smith of Merrimack, New Hampshire, andtwo nephews, Brian Wright and his companion Amy of Belmont, California and Lawrence Smith and his wife Delores of Edgewater Park, New Jersey. He was also the brother of the late Ernestine Wright of San Bruno, California, brother-in-law of the late Julia Smith of Merrimack, New Hampshire and uncle of the late David Smith.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday November 13th from 1 to 3 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center.
Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Saturday November 13th in recognition of Mr. Smith's service to his country during World War II.
