Obituary

David B. Rodd Jr., of Brighton, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 in Cambridge Hospital duringa medical hospitalization. Born on May 13, 1942 in Concord, Massachusetts, he was the son of Ledlie (Laughlin) Woolsey of North Andover, the brother of Hilary Loring of Andover, John Woolsey of Providence, RI, Alice Godfrey of Oak Park, IL, Henry Woolsey of Petersham and Mary Woolsey of Berkeley, CA. Also survived by his beloved family at Eikos Community Residence. David was a traveler. He used to take "walkabouts" for days. He traveled back and forth to California by himself. In 2004, he realized a dream of his and traveled to Hawaii. He developed a library of information about our National Parks and landmarks. David was a writer and a lover of words. His favorite method of communication was writing letters to other residents and staff at EIKOS. He was the most prolific contributor to the EIKOS newsletter and about two years ago EIKOS published a "coffee table book" of David's writings called "Cockroach Soup" which remains there today. David loved hot sauce, bow ties, coffee and wearing a tee shirt with a long tie. He disliked short haircuts for women, the word "awesome", gum chewing and loud sneezing. He loved arboretums and be surrounded by nature. David also loved EIKOS. Everyone, including David came to see him as a 'pillar of the community" and he was deeply loved by EIKOS residents and staff who counted on his wisdom and caring. David's EIKOS community still feels his presence on the living room sofa and will never forget him. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 13th at 11 AM at Eikos Community Services, 1867 Commonwealth Ave., Brighton. Private burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Eikos Community Services, Inc., 15 Hobart Terrace, Newton, MA 02459.
