David J. Kneeland, Jr., 76, of Maynard, formerly of Sudbury, died peacefully on Saturday, September 26th at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband for 52 years of Lillian J. (O'Connor) Kneeland.
Born in Winthrop on April 28, 1939, he was the devoted son of the late David J. Kneeland, Sr. and Helen (Cuminale) Kneeland. He grew up in Winthrop where he attended schools and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1956.
For two years, he served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at the El Toro Air Station in California.
Following his honorable discharge in 1958, he attended Northeastern University in Boston where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1963. He was the recipient of the University's Harold D. Hodgkinson Achievement Award, the highest honor available to a Northeastern Senior. He was a member of the track and cross country teams.
For over thirty years, Mr. Kneeland was the Associate Director of Admissions at Framingham State University.
He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed taking daily long walks.
In addition to his wife, Lillian, he is survived by his two loving sons, David J. Kneeland, III of Maynard, and Thomas R. Kneeland, Sr. and his wife Theresa of Sudbury, his grandchildren, Lauren E. Kneeland and Thomas R. Kneeland, Jr. of Sudbury, his two sisters, Alice Yarrow of Winthrop, Ann Pietrucci and her husband Richard of Boise, ID, his brother, Robert Kneeland and his wife Susan of Naples, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held on Friday, October 2nd at 8:30 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury.
Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Sudbury where officers of the U.S. Marine Corps will present military honors.
Visiting hours are Thursday, October 1st from 4 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home.
