Daniel J. Gearty, 78, of Concord, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne L. (Hagerty) Gearty. Born in Somerville on May 27, 1934, he was the son of the late William J. and Catherine (Gillis) Gearty. He attended St. John Grammar schools, graduated from St. John High School in 1952, and Boston College in 1956. From 1956 until 1958, he served in the Army of the United States. For over 30 years, prior to his retirement, Mr. Gearty taught kindergarten through eighth grade at the Cambridge Public Schools. He was also a coach and referee in intra-scholastic sports. A Concord resident since 1965, he was a member of the Concord Knights of Columbus and was an avid Boston College football fan. Survivors include 4 sons, William J. Gearty and his wife Sharon of Concord, Daniel P. Gearty of Concord, Francis Gearty and his wife Debra of West Springfield and Michael G. Gearty and his wife Heather of Littleton and 9 grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Thomas Gearty and Catherine Gearty. Funeral Monday, Jan. 21st from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20th from 3 to 6 PM. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Monday in recognition of Mr. Gearty's service to his country in the Army of the United States.
