Obituary

Currier "Bill" Smith, 95, of Concord, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Concord Park Assisted Living. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Betz) Smith. Born in Maplewood, New Jersey on March 4, 1917, he was the son of the late Reginald Heber Smith and Margaret (Currier) Smith. He attended The Rivers School in Weston, graduated from Williams College, Class of 1939 and attended Harvard Business School. He served in the Navy during WWII as a Lieutenant Senior Grade navigation instructor with the Amphibious Training Command. After the war he worked for Crocker Burbank Paper Company in Fitchburg as a salesman. After the company was acquired by Weyerhaeuser in Tacoma, WA he served as Sales Manager. After more than 30 years he took early retirement and formed his own company, Minuteman Papers. Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Barbara S Holt-Shrader of New Port Richey, FL, a son, David Currier Smith of Tifton, GA, and a brother, Reginald Heber Smith, Jr. of Beverly, formerly of Wenham. He also leaves a grandson, William Payson Holt, Jr. and two great grandchildren, Christina Evelyn and Payson Currier Holt, all of NYC. A Concord resident since 1949, Mr. Smith was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord. He began writing stories and poems when he was in his seventies and, before his death, published four books of collected writings. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord, MA 01742. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church Building Fund.
