Claire Rita (Grady) Mariano, 82, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully in her loving family's company on January 13th at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. Claire (lovingly referred to as "Miss Grady" by her husband Tony) was born in Cambridge in 1935 and raised in Somerville and Winchester. She graduated from Saint Joseph's School in Somerville in 1953. She married Tony Mariano her sweetheart of many years in 1958. After living briefly in Somerville and Marlborough, they made their home in Carlisle where they raised their family of six children and lived for over 51 years. Claire worked for AT&T before concentrating her efforts on raising her family. Claire was active in her community and touched the lives of many through her involvement in volunteer activities and youth organizations such as cub scouts and girl scouts. After their children grew up, Claire worked for the Carlisle Public Schools in various roles including Administrative Assistant to the Special Education Director. In addition to her daily vital role in her husband's consulting business, Claire excelled in the traditional arts of sewing, knitting, crochet, gardening, cooking, and numerous hands on home improvement projects. After raising her own family, Claire spent many years caring for her parents in their elder years and helping care for her 11 grandchildren.
Claire was recognized by all who knew her as an exceptionally kind, loving and supportive friend. Her selfless dedication to her family, friends, and her Catholic faith is the legacy of her wonderful time among us.
Beloved wife of 59 years of Anthony (Tony) Mariano; devoted mother of Linda of Edgartown, Tony and his wife Beverly (Wildey) of Carlisle, Mary Goldenberg and her husband Harry of Scottsdale, AZ, John and his wife Amanda (Ellison) of Houston, TX, Christopher and his wife Lisa (Champagne) of Westford and Kathleen Shimmel and her husband Gary of Littleton. Daughter of the late Norman Joseph Grady and Margaret Teresa (Sheridan) Grady. Sister of Paul Grady of West Palm Beach FL, and the late Joan Malatesta, Teresa and Norman Grady. Loving grandmother of Dillon and Melissa Mariano, Chris, Colby, Nick and John Mariano, Andrew and Garrett Shimmel, and Boden, Nola and Grady Mariano. Claire will also be forever remembered by her many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and dear friends, especially lifelong friend Mary Jean Russell of Quincy.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord on Friday January 19 from 4 to 8 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Irene's Church at 181 East St, Carlisle, on Saturday January 20 at 11:00 am.
