Claire Louise (Slattery) Heffernan, 83, of Marlborough, MA and Bridgton, ME, formerly of Concord, MA died Sunday July 24, 2011 at her home with her family. She was the wife of fifty-two years of the late Joseph F. Heffernan who died June 25, 2010. Born in Dorchester on April 5, 1928 she was the daughter of the late William E. and Katherine A. (McDonald) Slattery. She received her AB cum laude in 1949 from Emmanuel College in Boston and later a Masters in Teaching from Boston University. A forty year Concord resident, she taught English for many years at Concord-Carlisle High School and previously at Wellesley High School in Wellesley. Her hobbies included literature, poetry, music, movies, cooking, dining out and hosting get togethers with friends. An avid reader, she was a member of the book club at Crane Meadow Estates in Marlborough. She especially loved being a grandmother and spending summers with her family at their second home in Bridgton, Maine. A faithful Catholic, Mrs. Heffernan prayed the rosary every day. She was a communicant, lay minister and CCD teacher at the former St. Bernard\'s Parish in Concord . More recently she was a communicant at St. Bernadette Parish in Northborough, receiving the sacraments over the last couple of weeks. She is survived by her two sons, John J. Heffernan and his wife Christine and their two children Bryan and David of Groton and Edward J. Heffernan and his wife Gretchen and their two children Sean and Meghan of Plano, Texas; her daughter Elizabeth M. Pierson and her husband Jedd of Southborough. Mrs. Heffernan was pre-deceased by her sister M. Pauline Ruane and was extremely close with her sister\'s children: Barbara Donlin, Eileen Ruane, Paul Ruane and Claire Kilcoyne as well as their children. Funeral will be held Thursday July 28th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bernard\'s Cemetery, Concord. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday July 27th from 4 to 7 pm.
