Obituary

After a courageous fight with breast cancer, Christina Caturano passed away on November 30, 2017 at the age of 41. Christina leaves behind two young children, her 7-year-old son Rhys and her 23-month-old daughter Meriel, along with her husband and soul mate Shane Ryan. Christina was born on February 2, 1976 to father Richard Caturano and mother Barbara Caturano of Gloucester, MA. She was raised in Danvers and graduated from the University of Vermont. Christina married her beloved Shane T. Ryan in 2008 and the two began their lives together as one in Concord, MA, where they welcomed Rhys, and later Meriel. There, the couple forged many friendships as they raised their two children. In addition to her full-time job and number one love, being a devoted wife and loving mother, Christina had many talents, including writing, cooking, and creating magnificent works of art with her camera. She began her professional career as a photo journalist, working with both major Boston newspapers, the Globe and Herald. Christina's love of photography transitioned from news to the arts with many of her creative pieces featured in local art shows, including her most recent series entitled, "Creatures." Her writing talents include a cooking blog and children's books. She was also an avid traveler, visiting many countries throughout her young life, including a solo backpack trip through Europe when she was a student. Christina's love of travel continued when she married Shane. The couple visited many countries, including Italy, where they baptized Rhys in her grandmother's hometown of Prezza. Christina was also an accomplished athlete and a nationally ranked tennis player in high school and college. An expert skier, Christina could often be found hitting the slopes with her family all over the country, including her favorite spot in Killington, VT. Amazingly, she also completed THREE Boston Marathons, having finished her final marathon just this past April during her illness. Christina had an amazing zest for life and panache for living it to the fullest. When diagnosed with cancer, she put on her boxing gloves and fought a fierce battle. She remained courageous throughout, while continuing her amazing devotion to her young family, making sure they felt the love that emanated from her soul. Christina is also survived by a large and loving family. In addition to her loving husband, beautiful children and parents, she is survived by her brother, sister-in-law, and nephew, Anthony, Elizabeth and Santino Caturano of Topsfield, MA; her mother-in-law and father-in-law T. Anthony and Jacqueline Ryan of Barrington, RI; brothers-in-law Christopher A. Ryan of Abu Dhabi and Kevin D. Ryan of Baltimore, MD; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Christina was preceded in death by her grandparents Joseph and Elena Caturano of Revere, MA, and Donald and Patricia Flintoff and Arnold Waltz of Winthrop, MA. Christina's life will be celebrated in a private service. Her funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord, MA. Interment will follow the Mass in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, followed by a luncheon to celebrate Christina's life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral mass, interment, and luncheon, which are all located in the vicinity of Concord Center. At her family's request, visiting hours are respectfully omitted. The family would especially like to thank the entire staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Christina's name to The Lenny Zakim Fund, a charity she held close to her heart as she ran on the Lenny Zakim team during her last Boston marathon raising more than $12,000 for the Fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
