Obituary

Chester "Chet" Charles Larner, 83, a longtime resident of Concord, died at Emerson Hospital on March 7, 2011 after a long illness. The husband of Fan Cabot Larner, he was previously married to the late Marilyn Magnus Larner. Born in Cambridge, MA on January 26, 1928, he was the son of Edward A. Larner and Eleanor Chaplin Larner. Chet grew up in Amherst, NH and Lexington, MA, and later studied at Rutgers University. After serving in the U.S. Army in Japan, Chet followed in the footsteps of his father and older brothers, spending his professional years in a variety of insurance industry related activities. He acted as an insurance agent for several leading insurance carriers, opened his own insurance agency in Concord, MA, held insurance consulting positions with both Digital Equipment and Wang Labs, and was CEO and cofounder of Insurance Info Center, an insurance consulting business. A friend to all, Chet's greatest attributes were his humor and the laughter that he brought to his family and many friends. He spent his free time in a variety of fun and interesting hobbies. When not working on his boat, Kafoozalum, or any number of home improvement projects, Chet could be found in his North Conway, NH caboose which he retrofitted into a family ski lodge. Throughout his life, Chet was involved in a number of organizations including the Concord Country Club, the Concord Independent Battery, and the Trinity Episcopal Church. In addition to his wife, Chet leaves behind two daughters, Mary Ferguson and Betsy Ciuffetti, and son John Larner; he was predeceased by his oldest son, Chester Charles Larner, Jr. He also leaves behind three step children, Christine Cabot, Adele Cabot, and Marshal Cabot. Chet also leaves behind his brother Edward Larner and Priscilla McEwen; he was predeceased by his brother Marshall Larner. In addition, he is survived by his many grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord.
