IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles F.
Harrington, Jr.
August 28, 1926 – November 4, 2022
The family of Charles F. Harrington, Jr. is saddened to announce his passing on November 4, 2022 at Rivercrest in Concord, Massachusetts at age 96.
Charles (known affectionately as "Charlie") was born in Worcester, MA on August 28, 1926 to Charles F. Harrington, Sr. and Alice Harrington (née Rudison). He was the oldest of five children — his sister, Suzanne Black, and the late Ann Charron, Jean McCarthy, and David Harrington.
He has been a resident of Worcester, Hartford, Bedford, Chelmsford, and most recently of Concord, Massachusetts.
Charlie was loved by and will be missed by his children and stepchildren: Mary Harrington Ormon, Martin Harrington, Andrew Harrington, Eileen Harrington, Christine Harrington Dzhambov, Robert Hill, Deborah Hill Caban, David Hill; and by his grandchildren: Mike Stanley, Jessica Hill Clinton, the late Michelle Harrington, Sarah Caban, Jennifer Caban, Danielle Ormon, Kenneth Hill, Christine Hill, and Chelsea Ormon.
He was the husband of the late Jeanne Duhart Harrington (who passed away in 1974) and of Jane Palmer Hill Harrington (who passed away in 2009).
Charlie was an intelligent and talented young man who served as president of his high school class and captain of the track team. He was a gifted musician who, by the time he was in his teens, was already working as a professional jazz pianist at local clubs. After military service with the Navy in 1944-1946, he graduated from Tufts in 1948 to embark on a career working in electrical engineering at several companies, including Hamilton Standard, Underwood Corporation, RCA/GE, and Honeywell. He also worked as a sales manager at Daymarc and as a real estate appraiser.
He had many passions in life and pursued them all with diligence, intelligence and vigor. Charlie was a lifelong jazz pianist who was especially fond of Big Band music and New Orleans jazz. He was also a robust singer, and began singing in barbershop quartets as a teenager alongside his father. Throughout all his years he continued to fill his homes with music and song; and at age 83 he even created his first CD: "Charlie Sings" recorded in Acton, MA. Charlie was also a fitness enthusiast (with particular passions for tennis, running, and nutrition), and he had a profound love of the outdoors, nature, and the environment. He was also an avid reader with a keen mind.
The family extends sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of Newbury Court in Concord, MA, and especially to the caregivers at Rivercrest where spent his final months and days in their compassionate care. The professionalism, dedication, and responsiveness shown by the entire Rivercrest staff provided enormous support to the family.
A memorial service will be held at the Duvall Chapel of Newbury Court, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA on Sunday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed via https://youtu.be/YkUEhcXLzQ0 at the time of the service.
