Obituary

Charlene M. Hinton, age 71, longtime Carlisle resident and former Town Clerk, passed away on May 10, 2023 while traveling on the West Coast of Ireland with her husband, Steve.

Charlene was born on February 23, 1952 in Jacksonville, FL to Michael Charles Keeney and Yvonne Crosby Keeney. She attended North Miami High School in Miami, Florida and matriculated to the University of Florida, living and loving the marching band life in both high school and college. It was on Halloween freshman year that she met her partner in crime for the next 52 years, Steve. Steve and Charlene married on December 6,1974 in the First United Methodist Church chapel with Chris Miller and Betsy Crevling in attendance. The light of her life, Melissa, was born in May of 1984. Melissa was a source of joy and pride for Charlene throughout the rest of her days.

Throughout her life, Charlene held many professional positions. She was a Certified Public Accountant specializing in the computerization of manual systems/processes. They moved from Jacksonville, Florida to Seattle, Washington when Steve attended graduate school, and subsequently, to Massachusetts when they settled in Carlisle, MA in 1989. While Charlene was a talented businesswoman, her true calling became clear upon accepting the Town Clerk position in 2003, taking over from long time clerk Sara Andreassen. She served as Town Clerk until 2018. Charlene's professionalism and kindness left an indelible mark on the Town of Carlisle. Charlene also served in a volunteer capacity on the Carlisle's Trail Committee as well as numerous Carlisle School support functions when Melissa attended that institution.

Charlene leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Steve, daughter Melissa of Ashburn, Virginia, sister Cheryl Keeney of Waldport, Oregon, and countless friends and family. Charlene was preceded in death by her father, Michael Keeney, and mother, Yvonne Davis, in 1971 and 2021, respectively. The time elapsed from her father's passing did not diminish her love for him and her pilgrimage to Ireland was deeply connected to this love and memory as she was second generation Irish.
