Catherine E. Kay(Campbell) Shanley, 98, of Concord, formerly of Delray Beach, Florida and Huntington, New York, died peacefully Monday, July 19, 2010 at her Concord home, surrounded by family.
Born on October 12, 1911 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Christopher E. and Margaret (Driscoll) Campbell. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard T. Shanley who died in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Gluck and son-in-law William Gluck, her son-in-law, Donald Tartasky of Annapolis, Maryland, and 5 grandchildren: Katherine, Johanna and William Gluck and Adam and Ian Tartasky. She was also the mother of the late Claire Tartasky and sister of the late Edward, Christopher, Margaret and Joseph Campbell. She was very loved by all who knew her.
During the 1930s, Mrs. Shanley was a Medical Secretary for an orthopedic surgeon in Brooklyn. In 1938, she married Richard T. Shanley and they lived in Huntington, New York from 1955 until 1978 where they raised their two daughters. She enjoyed socializing, gardening and bird-watching and was an avid reader. She was prolific with her knitting; her hats, scarves, and mittens keeping all of her grandchildren warm in the winters.
In 2002, she moved to Concord to be near her daughter, Arlene Gluck and son-in-law, William Gluck. While living in Concord, she welcomed her brother Joe to the community, made new friends, took up new interests, and was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Church parish.
Visiting hours for Kay will be held on Wednesday, July 21st from 4 to 7 PM in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Funeral and burial will be private.
