Catherine is remembered as the loving caring soul who gave so much of herself to so many. Graduated in the Medford High School Class of 1938. As a young woman, Catherine was an award-winning equestrian, a talented artist and a gifted dancer. As a young girl she discovered her God given purpose to serve others. Her journey of service began as a pre-teen when she went to work to help out her family during the depression. Her life of service was fueled by her strong Christian faith and her tremendous belief in the goodness of humanity. She was a master at empowering everyone -- loved ones, acquaintances, people she met for the first time -- and she always went out of her way to encourage anyone who was discouraged. Catherine epitomized pure love. She never criticized others and she never ever said a bad word about anyone. Throughout her life, she lovingly cared for her extended family and regularly hosted holiday celebrations. Her door was always open to family, friends, neighbors and their children in need, as well as student-athletes coached by her late husband, Hall-of-Famer Walter Carew Sr... She lived in Concord from 1948-2003, when she moved to Nashua, N.H., to live with her daughter, Christine, and her husband Kip, who provided a loving home and the best possible care for the remainder of her life. She was a communicant at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in West Concord for over 50 years, a member of Our Lady's Sodality and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi, along with her late husband. If more people embodied her beautiful spirit, then we would have peace on earth. Thank you Blessed Catherine Healy Carew for touching so many and so deeply. She was the beloved wife for 53 years of the late Walter R. Carew, Sr. She is survived by her children, Walter R. Carew Jr. and his wife Mary Rose of Brockton, Thomas B. Carew of FL, Mary Judith Kenney of Concord, Chrissy Carew McEwen and her husband Kip of Nashua, NH, James Carew of Brattleboro, VT, and Dennis Carew of Gloucester, her grandchildren, James Kenney of Concord, Kelsey Carew of Brattleboro, VT, Caitlin Carew of FL, Patrick McEwen of Billerica and Kelly McEwen of FL., her sister Ida Stark and her late husband Clifton of Peabody, and her brother, James Healy and his wife Barbara of Rockville, MD, her sisters-in-law, Ruthie Healy of Medford and Stephanie Healy of Cincinnati, OH, her beloved friend and former daughter-in-law, Yashmin E. Monchgesang and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Jack Healy and Robert Healy.
