Obituary

Carolyn Eaton Field, of Lexington, died peacefully in Bedford, Massachusetts on March 16, 2024.

A devoted mother, she combined her artistic efforts with those needed to raise her two children. Carolyn taught her children by example how to deeply see, love, and share nature and beauty through painting, photography, and music. And she taught them how to live good lives through her example of selfless love, integrity, and perseverance. While running her own home, she was able to continue painting, executing a number of portraiture commissions and exhibiting in the Boston area. Her other interests included gardening, sewing, and interior decorating. She was a long-time member of the Lexington Outlook Club, where she served on the Decorating Committee.

Carolyn was born in Pittsfield, Maine in 1929. She graduated from Cony High School in Augusta, Maine in 1947 and went on to Vesper George School of Art in Boston. As an accomplished painter in Lexington, Massachusetts, she later continued her studies in portraiture with Sol Levinson and Constance Pratt, seascapes with Roger Curtis, and watercolor with George Shedd. For many years, she was a member of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society and the Belmont Art Association.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin Field of Lexington, by her daughter Leslie Field-Barth and her husband Phillip Barth, by her son Fred Field and his wife Karen Dobbyn, by her three grandsons Robert Field, Quentin Barth, and Gregory Barth, and by her grand-daughter-in-law Paige Hauser Field.

A memorial service will be held in Maine in the near future.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
