IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl J.
Meuse
January 26, 1938 – March 3, 2025
Carl Joseph Meuse, 87, of Concord, MA passed away on Monday, March 3rd 2025, after battling a lengthy illness while in the loving care of the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA.
Carl was born January 26, 1938 to the late Carl and Louise (Carter) Meuse in Medford, MA. He had 4 siblings - Claire, Patricia, Linda, and Phillip
He joined the US Navy in 1957 at the age of 18 and served on the USS Cusk as a Quartermaster Second Class, which provided him a lifelong source of pride as well as opportunities to travel the world and make long-lasting friendships. The Cusk was known as a pioneer for being the first submarine to launch a guided missile from her own deck.
After separating from the Navy honorably in 1959, he went on to meet the late Geraldine "Gerry" Driscoll. They married in May of 1967, and for their next 32 years of marriage he became her "Ducky." They bought their home in Concord MA in 1969, where they raised their three children - Brian, Erin, and Caitlin.
Carl enjoyed a decades-long career as a Senior Electrical Technician at MKS Instruments in Andover. After spending so much time beneath the surface of the ocean in the Navy, he decided to pursue a hobby that would give him the polar opposite view and subsequently completed over 100 skydiving jumps. When he wasn't pulling G's free falling, he dedicated his time to tamer pursuits such as joining the local Rod & Gun Club, tinkering in his basement workshop, listening to Pink Martini and Jim Croce, eagerly awaiting his favorite comic strips (Calvin & Hobbes and The Far Side, most notably), watching documentaries and Patriots games, completing crossword puzzles, and getting more for his dollar at his favorite local gourmet food purveyor. However, few things compared to his unbridled passion for a good mail-in rebate.
Carl is survived by his 3 children, as well as his beloved grand dog Dolly, and his best friend Lisa.
Carl's graveside service with U.S. Navy military honors will be held at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord on Monday, March 24th at 1:30 pm.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on March 24, 2025 in honor of Carl's military service.
In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation to the Bedford VA Hospital.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
