Obituary

Carl N. Madia, 87, of Hyannis, MA, formerly of Harvard, MA and North Bergen, NJ, died on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable. He was the devoted husband for 50 years of Rosemary (Moran) Madia. He was born on July 12, 1930 to the late Gaetano and Rose (LaManna) Madia. He spent his childhood in North Bergen, and went on to pursue his undergraduate degree in Business at his beloved alma mater, Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. Later, he relocated to Massachusetts to further his studies at Boston University, earning a master's degree. During the Korean War, Carl honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following the completion of his military service, he entered the corporate world as an employee for Raytheon. After approximately fifteen years, he began working for himself as the founder of PDQ Printing in Boston. Family was the most important component of Carl's life. He was a loving husband, a cherished father, and a loyal friend. His unwavering generosity, kindness, and sense of humor did not go unnoticed. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life – needing only good food, good drink, and good company to be happy. An avid traveler, Carl took his family on extensive trips around Europe. As a proud first generation Italian-American, no destination compared to his time spent visiting Italy. He took immense pride in caring for his former home in Harvard, Mass. He had a profound fondness for tending to his gardens, in particular the many apple trees and rose bushes present on his property. Carl adored his black Labrador Retrievers and loved opera music and theater. He also took exemplary care of his own health, making daily trips to the gym well into his eighties in an effort to stay as fit as possible. To honor Carl's memory, he would want you to enjoy a good Italian meal, to hug your children, and to give the dog an extra treat. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind a daughter, Dara Rose Laughlin and her husband Scott of Rochester, NH and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Salvatore Madia, Tina Kenngott, Nettie Schurr, Rose Pisani, and Mary Caputo. His funeral service will be on Thursday, August 10th at 10 am in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery in Harvard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
