Bruce G. Kidder of Elloree SC, formerly of Concord, MA passed away on April 29, 2021 after a brief illness.
He was born in Belmont to William and Ora Kidder and was the younger brother of Murray. He married Judith (Yeckley) and moved to Concord in 1961. Their son Scott was born in 1965. Both Judy and Scott have predeceased Bruce and he leaves no other family.
Bruce was a member of both the US Marine Corps and US Army Reserve where he trained both as a Medical Corpsman and Advanced Medical Corpsman. He was honorably discharged from both branches in 1962.
Bruce joined the Concord Fire Department Auxiliary in March of 1965, and was made a Callman in January of 1966. He was appointed as a permanent member later that year. Prior to the addition of Lieutenants in the Department, he was the last Firefighter that was promoted directly to Captain in 1981. As Captain, he was responsible for the daily operation of the Department. He responded to incidents, performed inspections and training, and worked with the Chief on planning. He retired in November of 1991 as the Captain of Group 3. During his last couple of years of working, he built his retirement home in Elloree, South Carolina.
Bruce also was a member of the Concord Minutemen, joining in 1963. He held the leadership positions of Sergeant Major and Lieutenant. From the period of 1984 to 1986, he was the Captain of the Minute Men and had overall responsibility for the running of the organization. One of Bruce's many accomplishments was at Memorial Day in 1984. He and other members identified the graves of all of Concord's Revolutionary War veterans and marked them with a "Betsy Ross" flag.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord on Wednesday, August 11th at 10:30 am. All are welcome to attend. Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Wednesday, August 11th in recognition of Bruce's faithful military service to our country.
