Beverly (Garrett) Barney, 76, of Concord, died on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of The Rev. David M. Barney, with whom she enjoyed 53 years of loving marriage. Born in Washington, Georgia on September 26, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Fannie K. (Denard) Garrett. After growing up in Tignall, Georgia, she graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and Education in 1963 from The Woman's College of Georgia. Beverly furthered her studies by earning an M.S. in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in 1965. Her passion for serving others led to a rewarding career as a Clinical Social Worker. She was employed by the Mental Health Center in Charleston, SC, acted as the Department Head for Greater Cambridgeshire Hospitals in England, the Department Head for Southland Hospital in Mobile, AL, and was more recently affiliated with McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA. Since 1975, Beverly owned and operated a sole private practice in Concord. Her professional background led to memberships with the National Association of Social Workers, National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers, and the American Group Psychotherapy Association. Beverly was a longtime, active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, where her husband served as Rector for twenty years. She was a Past President for the Concord Parents/Teachers Organization and enjoyed her involvement with the Concord Museum. She was a Pioneer for Concord's community cable network, and often assisted with the broadcasting production and photography of town meetings. Her gardens brought her immense joy, and she thoughtfully and tirelessly tended to her beautiful flowers. In addition to her beloved husband, she leaves behind one son, Michael Barney and his wife Alison of Pepperell, two grandsons, Benjamin and Asher Barney, her sister-in-law, Mary Garrett of Monroe, GA and one nephew, Gregg Garrett and his wife Kiddy of Greensboro, GA. She was predeceased by her only brother, Wesley Garrett.
