Obituary

Bette Ann MacLeod passed peacefully with family at her home in Tonto Hills, AZ on April 19, 2024.

She was surrounded by her sister, best friend, and caregiver Deborah Grady, and brother-in-law Richard Grady AKA her "adopted" brother" as she would lovingly call him. Also, with her and forever by her side was her cat, Luna. Luna "adopted" Bette by showing up at her doorstep ten years ago as a stray attempting to survive in the desert wilds of Tonto Hills, AZ and Bette welcomed her into her life with open arms. Also, with Bette her niece Chantal Grady-O'Brennan, husband Seamus O'Brennan, frequent helpers for Bette at her home and grand-niece Madison Grady-O'Brennan who enjoyed every moment together at her home, a version of "New England in the desert" as they named it together.

She is also survived by her nephew, Michael Grady, partner Melissa Giorgio, and grand-niece Gianna Grady of NY. All of whom spent countless days with Bette from Boston to New York to Arizona and provided her great joy as Bette provided to them.

Bette was born in Concord, MA on October 14, 1943 and was the oldest daughter of the late Merrill W and Alice M (Wille) MacLeod in a family of seven siblings. She is also survived by her sister Jane Banach and husband Donald Banach, 0f Plattsburg NY, niece Ericka Fowler and nephew Alexander Banach of Colorado Also surviving Bette is her brother John MacLeod of New Hampshire. Nieces Kristen Kirkland of Texas, Sarah Travers of Connecticut. Along with several other great-nieces and great-nephews. Bette was predeceased by her brothers Merrill MacLeod Jr. and his wife Suki MacLeod, and Thomas MacLeod of Concord and sister Linda Muir of Colorado.

She was a trailblazer in her field, with a career spanning over 40 years with Raytheon Technology Corporation in locations around the Boston area managing shipping operations. Throughout her career, Bette achieved numerous accolades and accomplishments, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and peers. She was a mentor and a role model to many, always willing to share her knowledge and expertise with others. From corporate organizations, domestic and foreign government regulations, millwrights, engineers to Union Bosses her impact on the industry will be felt for years to come, as her legacy of hard work, dedication. She leaves behind the lasting imprint of a professional woman who in a male dominated industry became a legend at Raytheon for anything relative to packaging and transportation locally and worldwide. Bette was fortunate to hear the voices of her lasting impact at her retirement dinner where it was pointed out that no matter, if you knew or didn't know Bette, the phrase used relative to any transportation issue was, "just ask Bette"!

She was a patriotic person and loved to talk about history and her Scottish/ Norwegian heritage. She was known by all for her passion as a New England Patriot's fan.  She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, 'betteisms', Boston accent and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
