Barbara W. (Ryder) Dee, 88, of Carlisle, died peacefully on January 18, 2013 at Walden Rehabilitation Center in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late Morrill F. Watson and the late Gerald R. Dee. Barbara lived in Carlisle for 43 years and enjoyed spending her time tending her flower gardens, walking in the woods with her dogs and most of all playing and teaching Cello. Born in New Bedford on June 26, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Marion S. (Thomas) Ryder. She attended Dartmouth Schools, graduated from Dartmouth High School with Honors in 1942. She started playing the cello in high school and later studied music with the late Jacobus Langendoen, who was the associate principal of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 33 years. For twenty-eight years, Barbara taught cello and for twelve years was the principal cellist of the Concord Orchestra under Attilio Poto. While living in California she performed with the San Jose and Redwood City Symphony Orchestras. She also played with the Cleveland Orchestra while living in Homeworth, Ohio. In later years, she freelanced with orchestras, chamber music groups, and school musicals in the Boston area as well as being a longtime member of the Concord Music Club in Concord. She also loved teaching which she did both privately and in the Concord school system. Survivors include her two daughters, Marcia W. Gulesian of Concord and Wendy Watson of Belfast, Maine.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Carlisle.

Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd from 3 to 6 PM.
Service:
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd at 11:00 AM in the First Religious Society, 27 School Street, Carlisle.
