Obituary

Avery M. Johnson, 37, of South Portland, Maine, died on Friday, September 9, 2016 at her South Portland home. Born in Natick, MA on August 20, 1979, she was the daughter of Deborah (Homer) Wilkins and her husband Bruce of Harmony, ME, and Mark C. Johnson and his wife Susan Dee of Concord, MA and sister of Turner C. Johnson of Austin, TX. Avery grew up in Scarborough and Limington, Maine and graduated from Bonny Eagle High School where she lettered in Lacrosse and Cheerleading. After graduating Avery took time off from school and headed west. She was employed by Big Sky Resort in Big Sky Montana for two years before moving on to the west coast where she pursued her secondary education and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Evergreen College in Seattle, Washington in Environmental Journalism. Most recently, she was employed as a Sales Agent at State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Agency in South Portland. She had a passion for selling. Her strong presentation skills enabled her to generate sales to new levels wherever she worked. As a skilled salesperson and eloquent public speaker, she was also successful in her previous career as a Real Estate Agent in Boston. Avery was an accomplished snowboarder and skier. She also enjoyed spending summers with her family in Kennebunk Beach and York Harbor, Maine. This past August, she celebrated her 37th birthday with her brother, Turner, at his home in Austin, Texas. All who knew her will miss her sense of humor and beautiful smile. In addition to her parents and brother, she is survived by her grandmother, Martha C. Johnson of York Harbor, ME, her aunts, Susan and Patricia Homer of Tequestra, FL and Judy Bonasoro of Framingham, MA, her uncle, Robert Bonasoro of Framingham, her cousins, Keith Bonasoro, Kim Bonasoro Mcgreal and Kristin Bonasoro, She was the granddaughter of the late Richard W. and Adelaide I. Homer of Kennebunk Beach, ME and Robert E. Johnson of York Harbor, ME. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, September 14th from 4 to 6 pm followed by a service at 6 pm. Private burial will be in the family plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, MA. Contributions in her memory may be made to Phoenix House Dublin Center, 3 Pierce Road, Dublin, NH 03444.
